Build
Construction began on site for Liverpool, Wirral and Sefton on Thursday 9 August, and for Knowsley, St Helens and Halton from Friday 10 August. Local people raised every tower and wall by hand.

Lost Castles
French artist Olivier Grossetête responded to the Liverpool City Region’s architectural heritage with six extraordinary structures made of cardboard, tape and community spirit.

The idea
One city region, six lost castles
Lost Castles was the first cultural project to involve all six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region. Hundreds of volunteers worked alongside French artist Olivier Grossetête to raise monumental structures inspired by medieval forts and historic buildings that once stood in the region.

Celebrate
A free family friendly programme filled the Saturday with street theatre, storytelling, falconry displays, live music and even an appearance by a dragon or two.

Topple
Communities came together again on the Sunday to bring the structure down, and all of the cardboard was responsibly recycled after the event.
